Discovering Art

And Understanding Artistic Styles

Directions:

  • This program consists of reading five books and watching one video, each explaining a different way of looking at art. Don't worry! These aren't thick chapter books. As a matter of fact, there isn't much reading involved -- mostly looking and pondering.
  • These are books available at the Crossover Center, not books that are read online. Below these instructions, they are listed in the order in which they should be read.
  • Read each book with your tutor. It is permissible for a tutor to read the book to you, or for you and your tutor to take turns reading.
  • After reading each of the five required books, view the video embedded below the books: Demystifying Art Styles by Jill Poyerd Fine Art.
  • Be sure to have your tutor document each completed part of this program in your Crossover Academy Junior Portfolio. This should be updated each time you complete a designated part of the program.
  • Submit the Discovering Art Completion Form after you have read one or more of the art books. If you read more than one book in one session, wait until you have finished before submitting the completion form. The form allows you to check more than one book at a time. You can submit the form as many times as needed, until all the books have been read. Also submit this form after you have watched the Demystifying Art Styles video.

Note: These are actual books, not online electronic books or apps.

Note: Privacy law necessitates a warning that whenever a person follows external links, such as watching videos, he or she may be exposed to unintended third party tracking.

After reading the five books listed above in the order you see them, watch this video on artistic styles.

Don’t forget to complete the Discovering Art Completion Form!
